Agatha
A Vision, An Inspiration
To step into Agatha is to step into a story—one written more than three centuries ago, when a woman’s courage and ingenuity left its mark on Ville-Marie and forever tied her name to the City of Dorval.
Agathe de Saint-Père de Repentigny was born in Montréal in 1657, the daughter of some of the city’s earliest settlers. She grew up in a new land where survival demanded resilience and creativity. While many women of her time carried immense responsibilities, Agathe went further: she became an innovator, a business leader and a pioneer whose impact can still be felt today.
In 1685, the Sulpicians granted her the domain known as La Présentation. Within a few years, she sold this land to Jean-Baptiste Bouchard dit d’Orval, a fur trader and voyageur. From this transaction, Dorval found its name—a permanent echo of Agathe’s life woven into the geography of Quebec. Yet her influence extended far beyond the land itself.
A true pioneer, she became the very first textile manufacturer in New France. Driven by audacity and innovation, she transformed local fibres into fabrics, introduced maple sugar to France, and secured the King’s support to sustain her ventures. At a time when women’s roles in society were limited, Agathe managed estates and ran businesses with remarkable balance and vision. With each endeavour, she proved that imagination and enterprise could overcome barriers and blaze new paths for others to follow.
Agathe was among the first to recognize the full potential of maple, crafting confections and sugar unlike anything Europe had known. In 1701 alone, she exported more than 30,000 pounds of maple sugar to France. Even Louis XIV himself was delighted by her maple candies, a local treasure reimagined as a symbol of resourcefulness, determination, and the rich promise of a land still unfolding.
However, Agathe was more than just an entrepreneur. She was also a wife, a mother of eight, and the steward of her family’s estates while her husband pursued military campaigns. She issued contracts, signed leases, negotiated trade and managed seigneuries with precision. For more than two decades, she carried the dual role of caretaker and leader, balancing the intimate responsibilities of home with the bold strategies of commerce. She embodied both tenderness and strength, weaving them into one seamless fabric—much like the textiles she produced for her community.
Her story resonates today because it is one of vision. She saw possibilities where others saw limits. She built prosperity in times of uncertainty. She redefined what it meant to be a woman, a leader and a pioneer.
Today, the Agatha Tower honours her essence: innovation, vitality and resilience. Like its namesake, it rises with grace and purpose, offering spaces designed for the renewal of body, mind and spirit.
The City of Dorval, with its parks, lakefront beauty and welcoming community, is indeed a place “where life is good.” The Agatha Tower rises here as a continuation of that promise. More than a place to live, it is a way of living: active, balanced, inspired. Here, well-being is not an afterthought but the very foundation of life. Every space, every detail of the Agatha has been designed to create an environment where people thrive; where life feels abundant, balanced and beautiful.
It is a residential complex grounded in history yet forward-looking, offering a lifestyle that feels at once timeless and new.
